WHAT IS THIS?

Beech Springs Church's Archetype group is going on a new adventure into the wild of God's creation on an overnight backpacking experience.

WHERE IS THIS?

Less than 60 miles east of Chattanooga, along the Tennessee-Georgia border, lie some of the world's oldest mountains, protected and preserved as wilderness.

When combined, the Big Frog Wilderness and the Cohutta Wilderness create the largest tract of Wilderness lands east of the Mississippi. Big Frog consists of over 8,000 acres and over 35 miles of backcountry trails, offering pristine backpacking, primitive camping, mountain panoramas, plunging waterfalls, rhododendron tunnels, mountain brooks, and all manner of wildlife. The 4,224 foot Big Frog Mountain dominates the skyline in this area. To the west of Big Frog, there is no higher mountain for several hundred miles.

Optional Items

Tips and Tricks
  • Whatever you choose to bring with you on the trip you will be carrying in a backpack. Two things are important: lightweight and doesn’t take up much space.
  • Avoid cotton. In the event that it does get wet, it will take longer to dry out than synthetic materials
  • Think lightweight and quick drying: Nylon pants over blue jeans
  • Long pants will protect your legs from thorns, poison ivy, bugs, and sunburn. Pants can also help keep debris out of your shoes while hiking.
  • Higher elevation can be chilly at night. It is suggested to bring a lightweight fleece jacket and some kind of pants or long underwear.
