Story

Gideon has always been interested in stories. His father would read stories to him as a child. He always loves to see the illustrations and the life they brought to the stories. At age four his brother, who was taking art lessons, started teaching him how to draw. Ever since then he has been playing with pencils and at age fourteen he started expanding his knowledge and skills. He is currently working with S.C. Treehouse on some projects.

Journey

The Creative Journey
Around age 3 or 4, my brother started teaching me how to draw. He was taking ‘professional” art lessons and would share some of what he was learning with me. My 2 brothers and I use to trace pictures of superheroes out of coloring books and then redraw new and different costumes on them. We were creating our own version of these superheroes, giving them names and powers, and then running around outside pretending to be them. This tracing was how I began learning how to draw the human body. One day at the age of six or seven I drew a picture of Luke Skywalker and Yoda. That was the first illustration I remember being proud of. I spent some time after that drawing “stick figure motion comics.” You know, those frame by frame kind of illustrations, but all on one page. Those were cool. Watching my brother drawing some illustrations for a book he was working on challenged me to up my game as well. It was around that time I remember drawing a man in a desert wearing a cape. He was pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I have a friend that also enjoyed drawing and we began encouraging each other to draw more and more as we would share our illustrations together weekly. Over the last year or so I have really been trying to improve and draw as often as I can.
The Faith Journey
Interestingly, my faith journey began with a children’s storybook. I was attending a children’s camp week. The theme was King’s Glory and revolved around two children’s storybooks about a princess (for the girls) and a squire (for the boys). The storybooks were then related to Biblical truths. It was during that week that I decided to give my life to the LORD. I didn’t really know what all that meant at age 5. But, I had seen my parents and my siblings living the Christian life and I wanted to be a part of that as well. That story, those illustrations, and the truths taught to me worked together to bring me to faith.
As I grew I began to realize how important my faith is. I want to dedicate all I do to the LORD and show His love to others. I hope to use my talent with illustrations to somehow honor the LORD. Who knows, maybe I can illustrate a children’s storybook one day that will play a part in leading some other little kid to Jesus?!
